The firm’s energy practice includes all aspects of the development, construction, financing and operation of both conventional and renewable energy projects, including gas-fired, solar, wind and geothermal generating facilities, battery energy storage projects and new technologies, such as carbon capture and sequestration. We advise clients in connection with the purchase and sale of electric energy and related products in both asset-backed and market-based transactions, in the acquisition, disposition and financing of energy projects, and in the negotiation of construction contracts, operation and maintenance agreements and other project-related agreements. Because of the firm’s expertise in real estate, land use and environmental law, we can assist and have assisted clients in real estate and permitting matters related to energy projects. Our attorneys have worked with most of the major utilities in the western U.S., including Pacific Gas and Electric, Southern California Edison, San Diego Gas & Electric, the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, NV Energy, Arizona Public Service, PacifiCorp and Hawaiian Electric, as well as many of the leading banks and financial institutions providing financing for energy projects.
